Meet Gautami, the girl who couldn't cook
I am Gautami, born and brought up in Mumbai. As a young girl, I hated cooking. My grand-mother would go hysterical. "How will we find a good boy for her”, she would mutter under her breath. But I continued with my ways - cycling around or playing street cricket with the boys. And then my folks 'gifted' me a cooking course. The next thing I know, I was sitting with a bunch of excited girls who already knew how to roll a roti, all round and thin. I didn’t know how to peel a potato. Then the class began. The teacher made me cut, knead, stir and fry and kept cracking jokes and stories on her experiences and before I knew it, the class had ended. I had absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to get back for more. And so began my culinary journey. Cut to several years later - I thoroughly enjoy cooking and teaching Indian. And to my grandma's delight, I did manage to marry 'a suitable boy' after all :)
The point of this story is that if I can learn Indian cooking, anyone can. So, come in with your sleeves rolled up, your hair rolled down, with some friends and wine and we will have a good time..
